Lucid Dreams
Lucid dreams is one of those terms that many people have heard of, but not many people know what it means. Lucid dreaming is when the dreamer is aware that they are in dream while having it. This usually means they are able to alter their dreams, by conciously thinking of things they would like to happen. This article wil explore lucid dreaming, how to lucid dream and other related features.
When someone has a "lucid dream", they must become aware that the world around them is not real while still being in the dream. When someone becomes aware that they are in a dream, they can change their surrounding world through thought. Many people have been known to be able to fly, jump long distances, have telekentic powers, teleport as well as many other amazing powers. Basically while in a lucid dream, your imagination is the limit.
Now, I'm sure you're probably wondering how you would have a lucid dream so you can try this out for yourself. The most commonly used method to get into the state of lucidity, is to use "reality checks" whilst in a dream. Reality checks, are when someone will check how real their surroundings are. If you were to do a reality check in a dream, you will be able to tell that your surroundings are in fact not real, and will become aware of the fact that you are dreaming. Commonly used reality checks are: Your hands (usually you will have a strange number of fingers in a dream), the time (clocks will not retain the same time in dreams), other peoples responses (In a dream almost everyone will tell you, "you are not dreaming" if you ask them).
So how can we make ourserlves remember to use a reality check whilst in a dream though?
Simply by repeatedly performing reality checks in real life. If you constantly ask yourself, "Am I dreaming?" whilst checking your hands in real life, then your far more likely to do it again sub conciously in your dream. The more you train yourself to do reality checks while awake, the higher chance you will give yourself of becoming lucid while dreaming.
Once you do become lucid in a dream then the next step is to simply relax and try out some things. You can first attempt to run faster than usual or change something slightly. As you beecome more comfortable having lucid dreams, you can try to fly, teleport or anything else you can think of. Many people suggest keeping a dream journal, to note how far you are getting and what you remember of your dreams. As soon as you wake up in the morning, try to remember what happened in your dream and note it down. This is a very good way to improve your chances of becoming lucid in a dream.
